
Lakers take season series over Excelsiors
JUNE 29, 2023 - The Peterborough Century 21 Lakers defeated the Brampton Excelsiors 9-7 on Thursday night at the Memorial Centre, taking the season series between the two clubs three games to one. The win ties the Lakers with the Six Nations Chiefs for first place in the MSL at 7-2.
The Lakers led 3-0 after the first period on the strength of a pair of goals from Sr. B call-up Mike Robinson.
Brampton came on strong in the second, outscoring the Lakers 5-2 for a 5-5 after the period.
Curtis Goddard gave the Excelsiors an early 6-5 lead in the third until the Lakers roared back for four goals in a row. Josh Currier scored his second of the game; Holden Cattoni scored a pair, including the game winner on a sharp-angle shot, and Robinson completed his hat trick after picking up Cattoni’s rebound.
Drew Hutchison played well in goal, making a number of stops on Excelsior transition attempts. He finished with 42 saves.
Next Thursday, the Lakers host the Cobourg Kodiaks on Pride Night in support of Sport A Rainbow. The team will be wearing special jerseys that will be auctioned off after the game. Tickets are on sale at the Memorial Centre box office.
